Ok, I know some of you guys are a bit....well.....clever. So heres the thing, I have always wanted to do this but I could never raise enough interest with people who would A, enjoy it, and B, who would have clean enough shoes to be of serious use. I think we need 4 drivers so I would be expecting those 4 people to do most of the work. We would therefore need a long term plan with deadlines. If you don't think you are able to commit the time then please don't sign up.

Although it would be cheep ish, I think we would require sponsership. BAE systems, Heinz, model shops, anyone you know with their own business. If we aim for 2009 it gives us time to buy, build, train and race.

Another small problem, we need somewhere to store and build the snail.

Take a look at the following link.

http://www.2cvracing.org.uk/index.htm

I would not want to do a full session. Maybe we could rent the car out for events we are not interested in.

An interesting idea, but would this not be taking some people away from model car racing?

If it was a one of doing a 24hr race then maybe....

I would not want to pull people away from the club. If that is what happens then I would knock it on the head. I thought, with the amount of time some of the guys are spending on Kit cars, they may want to do this as an alternative to that. It would be hard for me and thee and anyone else with a family. I would have hoped it would only take 2 - 3 hours a week each. We don't need to build the thing as one unit. One person could do the engine, another, the chassis, suspension, fuel, roll cage, gearbox, breaks etc. I estimate we have 90 ish weeks before may 2009. 2 hours a week would be 180 man hours per person. Thats nearly 5 full weeks working 37.5 hours a week.....times 4 drivers.....oh, plus 24 hours in may.

I will look into it further. Get some numbers together. For example, to get trained for a race licence would cost £260....each......

Good point though Tom. This will only happen in addition to current club events. If you are getting hassle from the Misses already then this is not the best idea. However, if, like me, you have an understanding wife......who by way of reconpence, helps herself to the entire contents of your wallet every time you come up with a crazy idea, then lets do it. As I always say debt is good........

We should create our own rules. Better still, we should buy and paint a car for someone else. We can get a car which best suits our personality. I shall have a Rover P5B because it is understated, powerful, sexy and just young enough to still cut the mustard, but old enough to be respectable.......Lets see you shoot holes in that water tight conclusion.

beam bearings are a nightmare to change. It is a common fault on French cars. It might be worth checking out the other side as they usually need both repairing. It might be cheeper getting a recon rear beam.
