Myself, Jim and James are planning on meeting up at the Preston BMX track this Saturday at 9am, anyone else fancy it?

I've no idea if the track will be quiet or busy, but I had a look at the Preston Pirates website and couldn't see anything listed for this Saturday.

E-Revo's a bit down on power on its old rotor at the moment, but should still be good for some back flipping action.

I expect James can't wait to get the Savage air borne :D.

We made it to the track this morning. The Savage got off to a good start almost immediately firing up. Some gear mesh problems though, then after only a little bashing it stalled and wouldn't start, probably the glow plug, or the starter, either way it wasn't glowing orange. I got a bit carried away with the E-Revo on camera and broke a front drive shaft. Hopefully Jim's video of the two trucks will make it worth while!

Vids up, another superb job, first time this year I've not been freezing at the track. Excellent editing by Jim, looks like me and James didn't even crash once .

Thanks Glenn, in a total filming time of about 5 minutes Jim's got some of the best shots I've seen of an E-Revo.

That was running on my old rotor, after breaking my new rotor the nice people at Novak in sunny California have sent out 5mm rotor upgrade kit for me, so truck should be on strong form on Sunday, if I manage not to break anything else...

hehe. Ive got a lovely HV pro sat behind me....with a 5mm rotor. Have you found somewhere that has a good selection of suitable pinions? what DP is the revo?

Don't leave it behind you someone may nick it!

Actually pinions are a good point, the upgrade arrived yesterday, didn't expect it for a while and I've no pinions, so it will still be old rotor for tomorrow!

E-Revo is 32dp / Mod 0.8. From reading the Traxxas forums the Novak pinions are no good for the E-Revo because of their off set. There's a few suppliers in the US, I've not really looked in the UK. As postage across the Atlantic on low value stuff is only $2-3 could order from there, maybe put a joint order in?

Size wise I've been running a 14 mostly, probably no need to go lower than that unless you're really hammering the throttle, it will pull a higher pinion for speed runs, but you'd have to watch temps.

You've gone for the 2-speed though? So that may change things a bit, I was meaning to look at what it does to the ratios, may be nice to have a gear for general driving, then a nutter gear for speed runs, although I think it was really designed to give a gear for crawling and a gear for normal driving.

it comes with a choice I think of a high and lower gear, or a high and crawler gear. Yeah, if your ordering some from the states, double it up and ill give you the pennies

Thought I'd post this pretty picture of the two speed box.

Image

From what I can tell with the two speed, 2nd gear is the stock ratio unchanged, and you get two choices for first gear. I'm not really sure there's much point in a crawler gear, well maybe, but the Novak will happily crawl along pretty slow anyway. The way I'd like to use the two speed is for a bashing gear and a romping speed run gear!

I reckons a 20-22ish pinion would give you the same gearing as I run at the moment in 1st, then a ESC melting top speed in 2nd, but you could come down a bit from that. I'm not sure how big a pinion will go on before you have to shrink the spur.

Why did you get the two speed? Crawling or speeding?

Anyway a safe starting point is 14 teeth, that's what I'm on at the moment and I'm going for again in 5mm form. I was about to look to the US, but turns out RW Racing have just done some 5mm 32dp pinions, nice :). They're selling them on ebay, a bit pricey at £4.50 each, but the first I found in the US were over £7 anyway.

Should I order two 14s then?

looks like black magic to me........ I just thought it would be fun to play with, and for crawling...and for speed.......

yes please mate, ill need a pinion of some description ready for when it comes and from what your saying and how yours runs, 14 sounds nice
