The rule Rick pointed out said that they should not have OEM heatshrink.

I think this is basically because sport packs are typically made of unbranded cells. The ones that came with my E-Zilla have card over individual cells, like the cells found in power tools, but they have Hot Bodies (not the OEM) heatshrink over the whole pack.

As I see it the rule is there to allow newcomers with cheap 'sport' packs to compete, while performance cells that are not on the list, like the GP3700s, with their GP heatshrink can not be used under the guise of sport packs.

I hope I've not miss understood it, an email to the BRCA would be the right way to check.

I think for most of us who just race at SLMCC, it will not matter too much as we nearly always take the BRCA rules as a guide rather than the law.

I see what you mean Ian.

Tom, I think I will be a bit P***ed off if I can't race at the regionals this year with the cells I have, I thought they were all BRCA approved.

Dear Rick,

Your GP3700's will be OK to use at Off-Road Regional events this year.
In 2008, the Off-Road committee decided to allow cells from before the 2008 approved list at Regional events. This has been extended to include 2009.
Whilst they can be considered under the 'Sport Pack' rule, the above covers the situation.

Best regards,

Paul Worsley.

RESULT!

I guess that brings Rick, Paul and some others back in regional contention.

I guess this is a good item for the AGM.

We should probably pay more attention to the BRCA website, there's a note by Paul from April last year that pretty well outlines answers to this thread!

Although I'm not sure whether older cells were allowed for just the regionals or Nationals as well.

As this is a complicated issue we should audit everyones cells who are planning on taking part in the regionals a month before the date, giving them time to get legal cells.

Demons new cells:

notice the connectors on the battery rather than side exit wires? Im guessing they have been keeping an eye on BRCA's decision and released this to coincide with the new rules?
