Traxxas just seem miles ahead of the competition, I'm guessing Losi will eventually catch up with a brushless LST.

They've released a Brushless edition of the E-Revo, it comes with the Castle Creations Mamba Monster brushless system, designed for 4s - 6s LiPos, with performance to destroy any nitro truck on the market.

They've also got a new cool looking crawler called the Summit, it has remotely lockable diffs and switchable gear ratios. The video even shows it going up steps.

It is pricey, if I ever get round to getting an E-Revo I'll get the basic one and put my Novak in it.

It's a lot of money to destroy bashing it about. Loads of fun but I think if I was spending that kind of money I would prefer to restore a few classics and use them for racing in a classic series. It just seems more fun. We all got started in this sport because of original RC10's, optimas, cats, cougars or even basic Tamiya kit like the Hornet or the hot shot. They looked better, they were more fun the drive and they were all so different. Not like todays cars which are all copies of each other. The EREVO is no different, it’s still a large truck on the lines of a truggy. Expensive to buy, too fast to run anywhere except very large tracks and not the best thing for close racing.

Retro may be nice to look at, but that's about it. My Meteor worked okay, was robust and got me into racing. But would I rather use that than my easy to maintain, nice handling XXX, umm no. As for it being cheaper to race retro stuff, there is no way you could keep your Optima running as cheaply as a nice and modern Slash.

Racing is fun and speed and power may not add much to that, but bashing is also fun and power and strength really counts, the current trucks are way ahead of the old things like the slow and fragile Clodbuster.

If you think the Revo platform is the same as other trucks or even truggies you should look a little closer.

The revo is very different to any other truck with all the suspension built inside the body, similar to the preditor.

Oh come on....the older cars do take more to keep going but that is part of the fun. As for the expense, you can get a awful lot of racing from a meteor for the price of the Revo.

As for the Revo being different, technically the suspenstion maybe a little different but its still a large truck which is not the best thing for racing on small tracks. Don't get me wrong, I would love one, but I think you could make a smarter investment.

Off road buggy racing was by far the most popular class but it seems most manufactures are producing TC's or trucks at a far greater frequency. Very few new buggies come to the market. It has split the hobby as most kids don't want to go racing, they just want to bash which is why they buy the ready to run gear and the best ready to run gear for bashing are trucks.

It’s a shame as building, modifying and maintaining buggies is part of the fun for me. TC's are too complicated. To get any advantage from the set-up you need a whole host of additional tools. A simple suspension change on old buggies had massive implications. I remember adjusting the shock collars on my old RC10 by just a few mills to change the handling to my liking. It was great, you had so much feel with the older cars, racing on a Sunday afternoon you could tell when the grass started getting damp. I would my car up for the heats and change it for the final because I new the track would be getting damp with dew. When I got it right I could 4 wheel drift the RC10 with a neutral throttle. Getting it out of corners just using the power was really cool. It was the fastest way around an off-road grass track. A TC doesn't offer such return to the driver, not if you want to be fast anyway. As a result to sport has lost some of its appeal. That’s why I think retro is the way forward.

I agree that buggy racing is the best, I have been racing buggies since the early 90's and I find it so much more fun and the changing weather is great when you have the dilema of what tyres to run and what setup chnages to make.

The best example of this what at Bury when it tipped it down for the final and I started 10th in the B final and a couple of us had seen a car in the bottom final with losi step pins on and the grip was amazing. So a quick look through my tyre box and on they went. The final was so much fun and I finished 2nd behind another driver with the same tyres.

I find it so much better than TC racing that can be a bit mundane as the track is always consistent through the day.

The reason I love the Slash is that it is so simple and fun to drive fast when compared to a touring car.

I agree, but if it's simple fun you want, whats wrong with buggies?
