Novak are positioning themselves for the ready to run craze by updating their sport XBR ESC supplying it with a decent motor and saying it's ideal for the cars like the Slash.

Only $139.99 from Tower Hobbies.

It comes with a sintered 8.5 motor, that's the hottest motor it is rated for, but as John showed at the steam fair, even a weaker bonded rotor 8.5 is good enough for a competitive 2WD buggy. The ESC is smaller than the GTB and doesn't have a fan, but shouldn't over heat with the 8.5. It would be good indoors.

Maybe an option for anyone at the club looking to go brushless without paying GTB money. Obviously I expect most of the club to ignore any suggestions by me to run a less powerful system and keep running nutter 3, 4 and 5.5r GTB systems

Hmmm, looking at the website the footprint for the Havoc is actually bigger than the GTB? Not sure why they say it has a small footprint. At least it's cheap. The GTB footprint hasn't given me too many problems in my touring car, although I gave up any hope of having the receiver mounted on the chassis.

Tekin RS / RS Pro have a nice small footprint. They seem to have really good specs, I was very tempted over the GTB, but availability has been poor and they are very expensive in the UK. I'm not sure what the standard software is like either, seems a lot of people end up buying the Hotwire programer and downloading updates from Tekin. They also bring tuning parameters like timing into play, which may not be important when you've got plenty of power, but could be when you're trying to squeeze the most out of a 'spec' touring car. I'm kind of glad we've almost all got GTBs which just plug and play. Hopefully indoor stock racing won't turn into speed wars this year.
