Water powered cars are not yet on the roads, though a smaller version has already hit the pavements.

A remote-controlled car which runs on solar photovoltaics and water comes ready to go and batteries are not included.

The car by H2GO is said to never run out of energy, or at least won't need new batteries.

A fuelling station uses electrolysis to split water into oxygen and hydrogen, which the car's cells then harnesses to produce an electric current to power the motor.

After four minutes at the fuelling station the car has enough fuel to run for an hour.

The gadget will be ready for Christmas and has a planned release date of November, according to the absolutegadget website.

Michael Cookson, chief executive officer of Corgi International, said: "The H2GO is not only a fascinating miniature-scale, real-working fuel cell powered RC toy that can be refuelled using plain water, but marks a change in how the toy industry will need to transform and adapt to a clean energy future".

The European Commission recently announced a private public funding initiative to speed the development of hydrogen technology for real vehicles.

That's very impressive but I have to say, what is the point? It's not like models have a large carbon fooprint. I would be really impressed if I could buy a real car that ran on water. They can do it, the reason they don't is to keep fuel prices high.......oh and the cost......
