After runnign a Losi xxx for many years I decided it was time for a change and after seeing Rick's B4 which seemed to go very well I decided to leave the land of Losi for a new B4.

I was lucky enough to get a FT from the states for only £120 which is a bargain any day of the week.

After running it indoors and outdoors I can confirm that I am more than happy with the performance of the car and it has held together well too with only a couple of minor breakages. this compared to my Losi that used to eat diff gears for breakfast!!!!!

if your looking for a buggy I cannot think of a better option than the B4 and with them easily available on ebay from £60 its a no brainer

Well, I enjoyed Southport so much I'm thinking of getting a modern car to go racing with. I need something that I can tune a little better and that will handle the power better. I looked at the Kyosho RB5 but the review I read mentioned a lack of adjustability at the rear let it down. The main thing that put me off was the front shock tower. The builder had to cut a notch in the shock tower to accommodate the shock adjusters. Not good, so that’s off the list. The XXX is naff so that’s off the list. It's down to the B4 or the hot bodies D2. The D2 looks good, it has a metal chassis and a front end that is more traditional to the old style of car but in it's first outing it finished 3rd in the A to two X6's. Impressive! Two things are putting me off, the first, I won't be able to borrow spares as nobody else has one at the moment, and after Ian's experience with his TC breaking diffs for fun I have questions on reliability too. So it looks like the B4 wins.

On a serious note, the difference you will see going from a XX to a B4 will be immense!!!!!!!!!!!!

why is everyone against the xxx all of a sudden? i think its a nice little car, i know ive not tried the b4 but my losi is a good little buggy, looking at the 2 its hard to see a diffarence.

The only thing that lets it down is my driving :)

the xxx is a good car, your right there, but the B4 has the edge! if you look at the regionals, or even the nationals and worlds the majority of seriously competitive cars are B4's. Your right tho, there isn't really much difference, but the B4's seem to have the edge ovr the xxx. Everyone in the club who has changed from xxx to B4 has noticed the difference, and I have to admit, Im being swayed towards the B4 camp for my next car (which won't be for a while)

The XX is a good car. It's strong and I don't think it disgraced itself at the regionals but I did take some pleasure from challanging for 1st in the heats. Over a 30 second lap I was losing 2 secs per lap. Not bad for saying I was controlling 3.5R power with my thumb in the wet. I think a modern car would allow me to get up somewhere near the front.

I think you would have gone faster with a 5.5 or 6.5 motor Glenn. I bet there were not too many 3.5R running on a damp track at Southport on Sunday in the 2wd class!

Did you manage to 'open the taps' on the straight, without the power turned down on your transmitter and reach top speed before the corner?

I think ste's going to have a go with my old b4, now that i've got the shiney new one built, i had the B3, then changed to a XXX, not long after they came out and hated it, don't know why, i just didn't get on with it, so i got a B4 when they first came out, 2003 i tihink it's done 6 years, and i've got the same again. might turn the old one into an X6 to see the difference. Either way the B4 suits me better, but there's really not much in it, if i had a XXX now i'd probably have got another, rather than switch
